JESUS WAS BAPTISED -- HOW ABOUT YOU? |
WAS JESUS BAPTISED?
The Baptism of Jesus is recorded in all four books of the Gospel:
Matthew 3:13-17; Mark 1:9-11; Luke 3:21,22; John 1:31-34
From Matthew 3: 13 Then Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan to be baptized by John. 14 But John tried to deter him, saying, "I need to be baptized by you, and do you come to me?" 15 Jesus replied, "Let it be so now; it is proper for us to do this to fulfill all righteousness." Then John consented. 16 As soon as Jesus was baptized, he went up out of the water. At that moment heaven was opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and lighting on him. 17 And a voice from heaven said, "This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased." What Does a Baptism Look Like? |
Christened as a baby, after many years as a quiet Christian, upon a lot of careful thought, reflection, prayer, and refinement of understanding, a solid decision was made to take the step of full baptismal immersion. This is a personal choice, freely made, and with heartfelt appreciation of the love of God, the father of Jesus Christ, and the meaning of his death on the cross. This is shared here for those who perhaps wish to better visualize this step.
Different denominations have different perspectives on specific elements of baptism, and the reasons for baptism, hence some divisions. Nevertheless, since Jesus set the example, that is good enough for me!
The references to the Holy Bible passages below are provided so you can do your own reading, study, thought, reflection, prayer and determine your own choice for your next step.
